FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.
The weekly meeting of Pioneer Lodge No. 3, 1.0. G.T., was held in the Congregational Hall, Moray place, on Tuesday evening, when t'.iere was a good gathering of members of the order. Bro H N Adnuis, P.C.'i'., presided in the absence of Bro Hon Tbomas Dick, C.T. Four persona were prcpo»ed for membership and two were duly initiated into the ordei. Amongst the visitors present was Bro Ij Hall, Wellington City Missionary and Grand Chaplain, who delivered au" interesting address on the good he bad knoivn to be accomplished by the ordpr, and the urgent need which otil! exists for all efforts of the members being put forth to carry on tho work of reform in which they are engaged. He had been 25 years going out and in among people in all spheres of life, and he knew what was required of temperance workers. He conveyed the fraternal greetings of Lodge Star of Wellington to the Pioneer of Duueilin. A vote of tbanks was tendered to Brc Hall for his visit, with a request that he would on hie return lender the fraternal greetings of Pioneer to the Star of Wellington. The secretary was instructed to send a letter of sympathy and condolence to Brc Dick. 0.T., in his aore bereavement, caused by the untimely death of his son at, Napier. Bro Dyson who ia about to remove to ChrUtchurch, tendered his resignation as superintendent of the Juvenile temple, which was held over until next meeting and P.C.T. Bro Adama waa requeated to take tempo rary charge of the temple pending tho appoiutineol of a superintendent. It was resolved to pay a frater nal visit, to the Lily of the Valley Lodge next Mon day evening. A. meeting of the heads ef the friendly societies ii Duuedin waa held at the Manchester Unity Hall oi Tuesday night for the purpose ol taking steps to givi a proper welcome to Registrar M'tson, ontheoccaaioi of his visit to Bunedin. There were present :- M.U.1.0.0.F., G.M. Wood (in the chair) and C ! Bi'clt; AO.F., O.K. Adams and C.S. Woodland 1 O 0.P., D.G-.M. Cole; ai;d Druids, O.l>. Moss am Bro J Isaacs. It was unanimously decided th.it Mi Mason should be requested to deliver his promiselecture on friendly societies on I he evening of Marc' 7, and Bros Wood and Black were appointed a sul committee to carry out the necessary arrangement;
