THE LONDON WOOL SALES

The wool sales have closed very strong, and the highest prices were obtained, except for faulty merinoes. Good scoured was Id and greasy lambs' and washed to Id clearer than the closing prices at the last series. The outlook is promising, as stocks are small, and there is not a single bale of combing wool at Antwerp.

Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. are i n receipt of the following wool cablegram from Messrs Sanderson, Murray, and Co., London, dated October 15th :—" Sales have closed very firm. Compared with opening rates the market for faulty descriptions snows no change. Other descriptions have advanced 5 per cent."

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated 15th inst.:—" The wool sales closed firmly this day. Since the close of last sales the following advance in prices have taken place: Greasy, Jd to Id; combing (washed), Id; clothing (washed), £d to Id; scoured and flue scoured crossbred, each Id; coarse greasy crossbred and coarse scoured crossbred, each scoured merino lambs and greasy merino lambs, each |d to Id; and greasy crossbred, |d per lb. The sales comprise about 230,000 bales. Three thousand bales have been held over for future disposal, and 110,000 bales have been taken for export."

The British and New Zealand Mortgage and Agency Company have received the following cablegram from their London agents, dated the ISth inst.:—" Tbe sales have closed firm. As compared with closing rates of last series prices are higher for greasy, Id for good combing scoured, and Jd for coaree crossbred. The lower classes of scoured are unchanged. The total quantity sold is 221,000 bales, of which 110,000 bales have been taken for export. Stocks in consumers' hands are small, and general state of trade good." ,
