MEETINGS-AND ENTERTAINMENTS.
The usual monthly invitation entertainment was givtn on Tuesday by the Pioneer Lodge, 10 G.T., in the Congregational Hall, Moray place, when an interestine programme was placed before a good aadienc?. The Chief Templar (Bro. R. N. Adams) was ta the chair. Mr Faulkner, organist of Trinity Wesleyan Church, presided at the piano, and treated the meeting to some excellently played selections during the evenlne- He also played as a duet (piano and organ) with Mr White, Hill's "March," which was ereatlv appreciated. Miss Hunter sang "The fisheftntn and his child." Mr Wilkinson gave a humorous recitation, which produced a demand for another,'.Mia 6 Churchill gave a temperance recitation, and Mr D. Gain delivered ft speech on Fashionable Temperance." At intervals during the evening members of the juvenile temple sang temperance melodies from Hoyle's" Hymuß and Songs Mr G. P. Bell last, night delivered a very interesting lecture on" John Bright "in the Presbyterian Church Uftveufiboume, iv aid of the local school library fund. Mr J. Reid occupied the chair. Tfiere was a very large attendance, and Mr Bell whb listened to most attentively throughout his lecture. The quarterly meeting of the Committee of Manacement of the Hanoyer street Free Heading Bourn was held on Monday evening. After the orc'inary business the hon. treasurer, Mr Alexander Meiriret reported the receipt of a cheque for £8 Is 8d from the Hanover street Young Men's Society, being the net proceeds of the concert held iv aid of the f nndß of the reading room. Mr Sligo moved and Mr Outram seconded n hearty vote ot thanks to tile above society for their kindne.s, the secretary being instructed to convey the same. Ilia average daily attendance at the room was reported to be over 100, and the conduct of those attending good. " A very pleasant evening was speut on 1-nday last in the hall at Clinton, when a ooncert was given in aid of the funds of St. Peter's Anglican Church. A varied programme was carried out with much satisfaction to the audience. The stage was fatted up very prettily as adrawlr groom; and the performers, both old anf. young, went through their parts, vocal and instrumental, with great credit. While tendcr'ng a hearty vote nf thaukt to the performers, Mr 'eorge Steel, on behalf of the Church Committee, U>k the opportunity of welcoming among them soie recent arrivals, and especially Mr an'l Mra An, ur Stronach, to whose exertions the success of the, n tertainment, financially as well na socially, was tt great measure due.
