LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Land Board was ueia on Wednesday, and was attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), J.W. Thomson, W>, Dallas, H. Olark, and J. Duncan. Gabbikl's Commonage.—The Tuapeka County Council wrote stating that the? would take over the Gabriel's Commonage in accordance with the conditions mentioned in the chief commissioner's letter of the 29th ult.—The board agreed that M'Donald'a BDDlication to leaee 6000 acres of the mining reserves bf> declined, the Tuapeka County Council having undertaken to destroy the rabbits on the reserve and the adjoining commonages and Crown lands. Hknthorn —Mr John Roberts wrote asking for a further reduction of rent on Huns 121 and 121A,Nenthorn, the carrying capacity baing diminished on account of portions of the land having been taken np for mining purposes. The reduction already allowed was totally inadequate to the loss sustained by him. Miners' horses and dogs ran beyond the mining areas and this took away a deal from the runs.—lt was agreed to forward the matter to the Government for their favourable consideration.-Mr A. D. Bell wrote complaining of the injustice which would be done to him if the full rents for Runs 121 D, 1210, and 109b were exacted from him for the ensuing halfyear, the runs having been destroyed by fire. He asked that the rent of Hun 121b be reduced by half this six months, Hun 1210 by a fourth, and Hun 109b by a twelfth—Forwarded to the Government for favourable consideration. MANIOTOTO.-Mr S. B. M'Carthy, on behalf of Charles M-Erlane, licensee of deferred-payment eectlon 12, block VI, Maniototo, applied for right to craze stock over section 13. at present reserved as a school site. He offered to keep the seotion dear of rabbits and pay a reasonable rent.—Heferred to the chief commissioner to arrange. Tapanui.-T. J. Collins suggested that a suitable reierve ehonld be made for a police camp out of the sections at Tapanui to be opened for village settlement at the end of the month, and added that either section 2 or section 3 would answer the purpose.— Perpetual Lease Lands.—A, J. M'Leod's lease of sections 6 and 12, block IX, Mount Hyde, having been forfeited, it was agreed that the section should ba notified at a cash price of 15s per acre, valuation for improvements, £183 103. Hanger llughan's report as to the value of E. O'Connell's section 8, block 11, Strath-Taleri (surrendered), was forwarded to the High Schools Board for consideration as to further reduction of rent. P. A. Connelly having surrendered section 4, block XI, Rock and filler, it was aoreed to reoffer the section at a capital value of 20s; valuation for improvements, £118 16b. The leases of Thomas Matheaon's sections 32 and 33, block IV Mount Hyde, having been forfeited, it was agreed that the sections Bhould be notified at a cash price of 15s per acre ; no improvements. Kubow.—Mr Alfred Smith asked for permission to occupy the mining reserve adjoining section 14, block X, Kurow, on condition of keeping it clear of rabbitß.-Heferred to the chief commissioner to arrange. Mr A. H. Chapman wrote that fourths of rents are not being expended in opening up his seotion at Kurow as specified by the Land Act, and added that if this coutinuea he will not be able to pay the rent that he had undertake to pay on the understanding that a road would be made.-The matter was simply noted. The application of Amelia Somerville to graze Btock on the mining reserve adjoining her jectron 3, block X, Kurow. as there was no water on her land, was referred to the chief commissioner to arrange.—Hanger Hughan forwarded a report on an application by Mr IC. is. Marcm, for Anna L. Chapman, to select 160 acres on Bmall Brazing run 5 of 23, Kurow, recommending that the same be granted.—The board agreed that the lessee could only select 150 acre 3or any smaller area immediately adjoining his homestead, but could not select 150 acres intwo blocks. Hanger Hughan, reporting on W. Fraser's right to graze stock on the mining reserve adjoining the southern boundary of section 1, block X, Kurow, recommended that the application be granted.—Heferred to the chief commissioner to arrange. Dottback.—Mr H. S. Mackay applied for right to graze stock over sections 6, 7, 8, and 9, block V, Dunback, on condition of keeping them clear of rabbits, If the board could not grant him these sections he would ask for section B.—Application declined. Applications.—The following applications were granted -.—For rural land for cash: Samuel Law, 6eation 2, block VI, Maniototo. For rural land on perpetual lease: Mary Jane Sloan, section 14, block IV, Tiger Hill. To surrender small grazing run: Hugh M'Kay, section 73, block XI, Glenkenich.-It was agreed that this Glenkeuich section be reoffered at a oopital value of 20b. Taibki Lake Station.—The Under-seeretary for Crown Lands wrote with reference to a resolution of the board, adopted last February, to the effect that it was not expedient to let again for depasturing purposes Huns 205 a, 205b, 205 c. A report had been received to the effect that these runs might be tunned pastoral country, and he asked in what sense the board considered the whole of the rum snitauls for settlement.—This matter was referred to th< chief commissioner to explain the resolution referrec Otepopo.—J. Cumine applied for a proapectini license outside a mining district, over the foreshon on blocks I and 11, Otepopo.-Granted. Olabendom.- Stephen Barker applied to have 20 acres the western portion of bush reserve section 48 block VI, Clarendon, surveyed into 50 acre lots.Heferred to Hanger Hughan for a report.
