JI. fctuart, who appeared for the defendant, said that his client had paid 15s 9d into coutt, and the plaintiff Irad accepted that amount* As a matter of tact, Mr Cooze had never disputed his liability for the 159 Sd, and had offered to pay itseveral times.- Mr WiUson: That's not true.—Mr Stuart: lam prepared to prove it. Mr Watson says it'u not true, but he dire not %o into the witne6s box.—Mr Watson hero left the court, and the case was struck out. In the following cases judgment was S[iven for the plaintiff* by default :-I<ew Zealand Mortgage and InvestmentSociety(for whom Mr Hoskingappeared) v. G. M Noble, claim i'l.i Ids, for rent of a sectionin the Wairio district and for money paid by the association for the preparation and registration of the lease ; W. Watson v. A. Orr, claim £7 la (id, for coal
supplied; same v. James M'Donald (Ashburton), claim £1 14s, forchareo;d supplied ; E. S. Clark v. A. Cameron, claim £1 los, for rates on property at Maori Hill; A. Hardie v. N. Brady, claim & 16s sd, lor groceries (Mr Gallaway for the plaintiff).
