Auckland, November 3.

News via Fiji states that Mr Symonds, British Consul at Samoa, died at Tonga, and also Mrs Leife, wife of the British Consul at Tonga.

H.M.S. Opal is still at Tonga, and the German squadron at Apia, Samoa. The Governor of Fiji has announced reductions in the salaries of civil servants ranging from 5 to 10 per cent., and a number of dismissals are threatened. It is proposed to close Levuka as a port of commerce, but ho deferred final action.
