SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.
A meeting of the Otago School Commissioners was held Yesterday afternoon. There were present: Messrs J. P. Maitland (chairman), A. C. Begg, and W. H. Pearson
The Secretary reported that he had made a personal inspection1 of sections 13 to 17, block IV, Hawksbury district, which the commissioners had been asked to subdivide, and he had also interviewed several residents in that locality (including three of those who signed the petition for subdivision). He had recommended fche chairman to advertise the leasing of the sections in one lot, which accordingly had been done.—The action of the chairman was confirmed.
The Secretary also reported that a number of Educational reserves in various parts of the provincial district had been on the 28th and 30th ultimo re-leased for a total annual rental of £496 7s.
A letter was received from Messrs Fraser and Stilling, on behalf of the lessee of section 2, block 11, Maungatua, asking the commissioners to extend the term of the lease for eight years.— It was decided to offer the section for lease by auction in the usual manner for a term of 14 years.
A report was received from. Ranger Hughan on unsold cash sections in the Wendonside and Greenvale district.—On the recommendation of the ranger it was decided to offer the sections in question for five years' pastoral lease at ah upset of 6d per acre.
An application was received from Mr C.'-Galr lagher that section 11, block VII, Weudonj be offered for sale on deferred payment or lease.— It was decided to offer the section for five years' lease at 6d an acre.
An application from the Wendbnside Land and Progress Committee askeel to have the survey of Ran 194, Waikaia, commenced assoon as possible, with a view to the land being opened for settlement.—The letter was received. .
The Secretary of the Education Board for-, warded descriptions of sections in the Dunedinand East Taieri, Hawksbury, and Oamaru districts required for school sites, and asked that the land should be set apart.—Agreed- to. v ■■
Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £63 10s 6d.
