THE IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. London, January 28 (Received January 29, at 11 p.m.)
The meeting of the Imperial Conference has been postponed for a fortnight in order that the Victorian and New South Wales representatives may be present at the discussion of questions relating to the islands of the Pacific. THE FISHERIES DISPUTE. In the House of Commons yesterday Sir Jas. Fergusson, Under-secretary for Foreign Affairs, announced that negotiations were proceeding between the Imperial and United States Governments relative to the Canadian i fisheries disputes. . He hoped a friendly i settlement would shortly be arrived at. MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. (Received January 30, at 11 p.m.) . Consols are at 100 i. New Zealand 5 per cent. 10-40 loan is 10s lower, at 102 ; New Zealand inscribed stock is 10s higher, at 95. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,990,000 quarters, being 80,000 quarters less than last week. Colonial breadstuffs are unchanged. ; Australian beef tallow is 6d higher, at 25s Gd; and mutton tallow is also 6d higher, at 30s. New Zealand frozen mutton is selling firm at 4-l-d to ijjd per lb.

Holland upholds the action bf Mr Havelock, Governor of Natal. The Procedure Bill to be introduced embraces cloture. . The newly-appointed Bishop of Perth is a passenger by the Rome. Lord; Churchill's statement shows that he objected to £31,000,000 being voted for the" army and navy. He also urged that the proposed defences of coaling stations and commercial ports be abandoned. He would have been satisfied with an immediate reduction of half a million. The press condemns Lord Churchill's action. (Received January 30, at 10.30 a.m.) The Pall Mall Gazette publishes an article exposing the healing " miracles" of Mr Milner Stephen.

The wheat market is depressed, and no fresh sales are reported. The supply is above the market demand. Quotations for Australian cargoes on tlie spot are unchanged. Sellers of the new crop are asking 27s 3d.
Samuel Allsop and Sons, pale ale brewers, intend to convert their business into a com" pany, with a capital of £3,500,000.
Her Majesty the Queen has approved the appointments of Mr Edward Waldemar Johanasen as fairish Consul at Auckland, and. of Dr Kortum as German Vice-consul at Cooktown.
Thirty Tory members have placed their seats at the disposal of Mr Goschen.
It is the intention of the Austrian Government to shortly prohibit the exportation of horses from that country.
The Earl of Northbrook approves of the Marquis of Salisbury's refusal to accept Lord Randolph Churchill's proposal for a reduction of the expenditure in providing coaling stations.
Mr Gladstone was present at a great dinner given by Welsh members of the House of Commons, at which was discussed a proposal for the formation of a Welsh party.
