About a quarter past 2 o'clock this morning a fire broke out in a shop aud'dwelliug-house situate at the comer of Smith and Marian streets, Caversham, occupied by Mr W. Craig, and owned by Mr W. Wilson. Superintendent Carmalt (of the Salvage Corps) aud a few members of tho South Dunedin Brigade turned out, but were unable to save anjthing, as Ihe building, which was of brick, anil contained five looms besides the shop, was gutted before their arrival. Mr Craig had the stock, furniture. &c, insured for £150 iv the New Zealand Office, and the buildiug was insured in the Colonial for £250.
