WEST HARBOUR.

ihe ordinary meeting of the VTest Harbour Borough Council, held on Tuesday was attended by the Mayor (Mr D. Young)' Crs. Albery, Adams, Bain, Barclay, Bolton,' Hutton, George, Larnach, Ross, Walker, Wise. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter from Messrs G. & J. A. Cook relative to Mr R. Peters' claim against the Borough was minuted as "received," after a motion had been proposed that no further action be taken in the matter. The Waikouaiti County Council forwarded a communication ' enclosing a resolution passed by that body to the effect that the reasons given for the non-acceptance of the lowest tenderer for the Sawyers' Bay bridge were unsatisfactory.—Received. Mr H. H. Thompson, St. Leonards, wrote complaining that in consequence of the removal of top soil and clay from in front of his house it was almost impossible to approach.—Received. Inspector to report. Messrs A. Kyle, J. Russell and T. C. de Lacey complained of damage done by stray cattle.—Received.

Mr Aitken, Secretary of the Presbyterian Church, wrote requesting that a footpath be formed in Castle Street.—Letter received. W. C. Jenkins wrote asking that a road should be made to section 21.—Received. The matter of Messrs Hardie and Hocken's conveyance, consideration of which was left over from last meeting, was again brought up and discussed. Cr. Hutton moved that Cr. Bain and the mover sign the conveyance. Cr. Walker seconded the motion. Cr. Adams contended that the act would be illegal. As an amendment it was moved by Cr. Wise, and seconded by Cr. Larnach that: —" The matter be again brought up this day six months."—Carried by eight to four. DEPUTATION. A deputation consisting of Messrs Harold, McCallon, and others waited on the council with reference to repairs to Hill street, and were informed that the matter would be dealt with during the evening, a motion referring to the grievance having been tabled. ACCOUNTS. Messrs Bauchop and Co., Port Chalmers, forwarded an account for pipes. Moved that it should not be paid. Carried. ■ reports. The works committee reported: Met on May 11 and authorised the contractor for improvements on Ascog road to use material from District road ; and also, that with reference to Mr Drake's complaint they had resolved that the culvert near Mr Winton's be filled up, and water conveyed to large culvert crossing Montagu street. The Mayor reported that lie had visited, with Cr Albery, the sections offered to the council as suitable sites for a pound but as Cr Bolton, the other member of committee, did not accompany them the only repoi't they could offer was informal.
