BOROUGH COUNCILS
ST. KILDA. The ordinary meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council, held on Tuesday evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr H. Gourley), Councillors Bellett, Dent, Gore, Mitchell, Stenhouse. COEIiESPOXDENCE. Mr \V. Lloyd wrote asking for a copy of the letter sent by Mr Alleiii complaining about hiiii ; also requesting the council to hold an inquiry into the matter of the mayor interfering with him in the execution of his duty as borough ranger. On the motion of Cr Gore, seconded by. Cr Bellett, it was agreed "That the letter be not received;" Mr G. W. Mitchell applied for improvements to be effected in the vicinity of his property, llefeirecl to the inspector to report at next meeting. The Town Clerk, Caversham, forwarded a letter asking the council to agree to bear half the cost of the maintenance of Forbury road alongside the boundary of the borough. Resolved—"That the clerk reply that this council is Milling td contribute without prejudice towards the cost of the road ; if the offer be not accepted, the matter to be referred to the resident magistrate's court." MUNICIPAL RATE. Cr. Gore proposed, and it was agreed " That the municipal rate be one shilling in the pound for the year ending 31st March ISS7." . FERGUSON STREET. Cr Stenhouse drew attention to the carting going on in Ferguson street. The inspector was instructed to see that the carters keep on the middle of the street, as owing to the carting on the footpatli it is becoming impassable. MOREAU STREET AND BAY VIEW ROAD. The inspector was empowered to obtain 30 loads of metal for Moreau street and Bay View road. STATUTORY MEETING. The statutory meeting was held for the purpose of signing the balance sheets. It was agreed that the mayor sign the balance sheets. The mayor said there was one thing for congratulation in reference to the balance sheets, viz., that at the end of March last the bank overdraft was only £374. He as well as the councillors wat anxious to make the overdraft a thing of the past. As he had previously stated, it would be a grand thing to be clear of the banker, and by a little economy he thought that in a short time they would be out of debt. He hoped that next year they would also be able to dispense with the levying of a special rate. (Hear, hear.)
