TO THE KDITOIt. 'Iri\~J1 ri\~J W'^ much s"rP"sed on reading your report of the Duneclin-Union match in this morning s issue to find no mention marie of the palpable infringement of the rules whereby Murray secured the try.. That the ball was pissed forward there can be no doubt, as even some of the Dunedin men called out "forward » at the time the ball was passed. Seeing the infringement the Union forwards did not attempt to tackle Murray (your report says nothing of this) and so he gained the try.—l am, &c

TO THE EDITOn
Sin, — In your issue this morning there appears a paragraph, headed " Olub matches," in which, as far as my own club i.s concerned, there are some statements which cull for correction. In the table of load club matches I notice that the Pirates' result is given as follows .-—Matches played, 10; won, G; lost, 2drawn, 2; score in points, for. 40; against ll' This should read :—S, C, 1,1, 40, 9. From this it will be seen that the Dunedin and Pirates have each lost one match, and that their claims for supremacy are equal. I would therefore suggest that tbe two teams meet—say on the sth September next—to settle the question —I am, &c.,

TO THE KDITOR.
Sin,—l should like to say a few words concerning the performances of the various senior clubs, a resume of which appeared in your issue ot to-day. My remarks concern the High School Club alone. In the first place the match between the School and the Pirates is regarded as a win for the latter club by two points, on what authority I know not. This match, in tairness to the School, should be counted as a draw. The O.R.F.U. Committee were unable to decide concerning .the disputed try, consequently the match is to be regarded by all outsiders as a draw..
Again, the general public are informed that "the High School score includes four points obtained in a match with the University team," yet there is no mention made of the fact that in the same match the University also scored four points, and that these are counted amongst the points scored against the High School. Why the University match should not be counted, any more than the Pirates-Sydenham match, I am at a loss to understand. It cannot be that the University team, which was composed almost .entirely of Dunedin, Pirates, and Union First Fifteen men, was too easy a prey for the School. Such names as Bee, Golding, M'lntyre, Milne, Trotter, Montgomery, Cooke, Allen, &c, should at once dispel that idea.
Further, the matches with the Normal Training College (not the Normal School, which suffered defeat at the hands of the High School juniors) and the Green Island are not included on the ground of their being junior clubs. I admit that the inclusion of these matches would give the. High School an advantage in the number of points scored over the other senior clubs, but I strongly object to either of these clubs being included in the status of a junior club. The Normal Training College, with two interprovincial men of ISBS in its ranks, and several other prominent senior players, clearly cannot be a junior club. The Green Island Club, as every footballer knows, was a senior club when the High School played it, and, further, did not become a junior club until seven or eight of its best players joined the Taieri Club.
■ I think that the School Club has fah-ly shown that tlieir's was no foolish action when they decided to tackle the senior clubs.—l am, &c, „. , J- Bell Thomson. High School of Otago, August 10.
