MAORI HILL BOROUGH COUNCIL.
An ordinary meeting (ho Maori Hill Borcujh Council held last evening', was attended by the Mayor (Mr D. Brent), Crs Rosjbotham, Mitchell, Church, Lawson, Campbell, Asskoy, Tanner, Ikuchr<tfs> i ltchcock, Hill, and Wataon. COnRBJrONDBNCB. Tho Official Asslcnoe wrote re the payment of an account in WinefleM's estate. —It wai resolved, "That the Woixlwaro Company bo pa"d £589 Ms Id, aid tho balance handed over to the Official Assignee on bia certifying to tho correctness ol the procseding3 " 'iho Town Clerk of Duncdin wrote forwarding a resolution re the establishment of public abattoirs. - Tho reroluti.m was approved by the Council. Mr Davidson wrote statlne that ho had taken over tho Cavcrebau and Submban Oaswo-ks, snil a6ked' leave to intcoduto Rao-pipos into the borouah.—The matter waa nfemd fo tho menibots of South Ward, to report at n:xt msctinsr cf the Council. Mi Horst wrote i ailing the attention of the Council to the bad ftate cf tho road at tha entrance to (he township of Bolvidere.—Ke erred to msabors of Esst j Ward to lep^it.
The Worts Committee recommended that NowicgtOD road be f<v rned to i(s permanent lovol for a distance of nine chains from the JlAOii HUI district road p'ovidid Mr Morrla would aaree to the read being widened to its full width and metalled 3216 wide and 6in < cap; (hat the work in convection with tbo grant o( £350 for the Maoi Hill district road stand over for two months; and that 150 jardg of metal and screening be purchased for South Ward, to be doiivcred ss required.-lhe report was adopted, and the works referred to therein v. ere left to the members for South Ward to carry out. 'J he Ficance Committee recommended that accounts amountln? to &\&i 15s 4d b<i passeed for payment. They teported that the bank overdraft was £1812 a 3d. —lha report was adopted.
Cr Chukcii moved- " Xhat, considering the financial position ot the borough, and the liability in connection with Anderson'*; tail-race, no now works, with the exception of those already aithoiiEeJ, be carried out by this t ouneil during the current year, unless in case of very urgent necessity."-Iho Mayor said that as tho whole of the revenuo of Eaat Ward wss apprcpri' ated, tho Council chonld certahily not carry out aoy fresh works, unle'B they wera works of urgent necessity.- Alter some discussion, Cr CHDKcn agreed to v/iihdraw the mrtion, as the other councillors pro=on4 Eecmed antagonistic to it. Or 'i'ANKEii moved—"That (ho Woiks Committeo report a3 to the ouditlon of Tinner's Bridge, and also as to the several requirements cf West Ward." Tho motion was eec nded by Cr Watson, and carried.
