Saturday, November 17, (Before Messrs G. E. Eliott and R. Ohisholm, J.P.'s.)

Stealing a Pair op Boots—James Devine was charged with feloniously stealing a pair of boots, of the value of 12s 6d, from outside the shop of George Heath, George street.—The prisoner was seen on Friday morning loitering about Mr Eteath'a shop by Conßtable Fleming, and on being watched was detected in the act of removing a pair of boots from a nail. He went through a right-of-way into Great King street, where the constable arrested him. —The Bench sentenced prisoner to 14 dayß* imprisonment, with bard labour. Tbespassino on Margaret Godfrey was charged with wilfully trespassing on the premises of Samuel Webb, situate in Great King street, at 10.30 p.m. on November 16. and refusing to leave.—Mr Catomore appeared for Webb. —It appeared that accused and Webb had been living together, but be had turned her out in consequence of her intemperate habits, and she had since been in the habit of i coming about his house and making a disturbance. In consequence of the noisy behaviour of accused on Friday night the police interfered, and Webb said he would bring the present charge against her.—Accused stated that she had gone to Webb's place to get a bed and other property belonging to her, and she had no money to get lodging? anywhere for herself and baby.—Webb stated that if accused would promise to behave herself he would give her some money, and she could take away anything that belonged to her.—The Bench convicted and discharged the accused.
