A fire occurred at Lawler's bedding factory in George street last night, resulting in the complete destruction of the premises and the death of a woman who was sleeping there.
The coal lumpers employed on the Sydney wharves are demanding threepence per hour advance of wages, and a strike is feared to be
imminent.

The first three heats for the rowing trophies offered by Mr Frank Punch wete rowed to-day on the Parramatta River, and were won by Laycock, Trickett, and Rush respectively. The contest will be continued on the sth and 7th inst.
