THE HIGHEST SCORE ON RECORD.

In a match at Rickling Green against the local team, commenced on August 4th, and concluded on the following day, the wellknown Orleans Club made tho extraordinary and unprecedented score of 920. This surpassse by 145 rims the previous best score, properly authenticated —the famous 775 made last February at Sydney by IN'ew South Wales against Victoria. Having been performed iu a match of first-class importance, the Australian feat must be considered more [ remarkable, though as a curiosity of cricket it will now take second place. The heroes of |the game were Mr A. H. Trevor and Mr G. F. Vernon. These two gentlemen became partners at the fall of the first wicket, and made respectively 338 and 25!). In no previous match, eo far as we are aware, have two such large individual innings been played. Mr Trevor's score was made up ofjfouv 6's, rive s's, 1(J 4's, 32 3's, 29 2's, and 71 singles. Mr Vermin's innings comprised two 6"s, 15 4's, 24 3's, 21 2's, and 73 singles. On the same side it will be seen there was a scoro of DO not out, and two others of 50 or more. In all five batsmen scored between them 795 runs, thus by their collective efforts surpassing the New South Wales total. Rickling Green is, of course, not a vory powerful team, but amongst the players was Frank Silcoek, the well-known Essex professional. Appended is the full score of tho Orleans Club team :— C. I.
