EDUCATION BOARD SCHOLARSHIPS.

At the meeting of the Education Board on Thursday the report from the Scholarship Exa-j miners was read and approved. It was as

follows:—

Education Office, Dunedin, January 17th, ISB2. The cecrctary Otago lioarU of Education. Sir,—Tho Board of Examiners for Scholarships bog to rsport that the amiu-.l competition for scholarship* was hold on tha 20th aid three following, diys of De comber last, simultaneously at Duuediii, Oamaru, Mil tou, Lawreuce, Tapauui, Naseby, and Cromwell. The examination wag conducted by the supervisors at the various centres, to the entire satisfaction of the Board of Examiners. For the junior scholarships there were 61 cotniietitors, being 1U fewer than last year ; and for thu senior 35, beiny six more than last year. The papers were examined m follows:—By ilr Goyen : Senior English, senior grammar, senior arithmetic, senior mathematics, and junior arithmetic. By Mr Petrie: Senior geography, senior dictation, senior history, senior Latin, junior dictation, junior grammiir, and junior Fnglish. By Mr Taylor : Junior his tory, junior geo^iuphy, and senior French. TinKxaminers recommend that scholarships be award-.d to the nine competitors whoso names .-taud fi:st in the senior list, and to tho eight whose name 9 stand first in the junior list.
