A fire in Symonds street this morning destroyed Tyre's shop, Gilmour store, and Lincoln's cottage. The insurances wore: — Tyre's stock, £800 in the Now Zealand, and building for £500 in the Standard Office; Gilmour's stock, £1200 in the United (reinsured for £300 each in the Union, Northern, and Norwich Union Offices), building £450 in the Standard Office), Lincoln's cottage, £200 in the Standard Office.
| Fifty-nine thousand nine hundred and thirtyfive shares were applied for in the Meat Preserving and Meat Freezing Company. At a meeting of tho Waste Lands Board £2500 was received as a deposit in respoct of the To Aroha settlement.
The Maori who stole Father Luck's horse, and sold it in To Awainutu,has been arrested in tho King country by Constablo Stephen Bond, who had to swim across the tho Puiuii liivor.
Wancanui, Decembor Bth. Miss Louise Pomeroy was prevented by serious illness from appearing here to-night in the "Hunchback." The audience at the Princess Theatre was dismissed,

1 Messrs Kennedy M.icdon.tld and Co. sold by auction to-day the Akiteo Station of 31,384 acres freehold, with 24,000 sheep, 550 cattle, and 50 horses, for £55,000 to R. Linton; also tho Uloncoo (Aohanga) station, of 12,072 acres freehold and 3D,000 acres leasehold, with 40,000 shoop, 1850 cattlo, and 85 hoi-sen for £35,000, to Hon. W. S.Peter, ' '
Pungarehu, December Sth. Tho camp was shifted at Piirihaka yesterday. Roadwork will soon be commenced. The men stationed hero have already begun between Parapara and Parihaka. It is stated they are to have Is per day on tho road, and the monthly cheques will be considerably increased. Officers got 2s Od per day. Several recruits have already got tired of the force, and are getting their discharges.
Nothing of any importance has occurred today. An escort of 40 men from here went tills morning, with the. arms that wore taken from tho Natives, to meet another, party, which took the arms into Opunake, from whence it is supposed they will go to Wellington.
Chiustohuiich, December Sth.
Vincent and Co.'s brewery caught fire tonight. Tho damago is confined to the brewhouso. The loss is covered by insurance in the National and New Zealand offices.
Balci.utha, December Sth. While two young girls, daughters of Alexander Ironside, coacli proprietor, were yesterday afternoon playing with a raft in a waterhole at the Lower .Reserve) both fell in. One managed to scramble out, but the other, aged seven years,' was drowned.
Tapanui, December Bth. A stable belonging to Messrs Mooney and Quin, containing an entire horse and a quantity of goods, was burnt this afternoon.
