WEST HARBOUR BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the above Council was held lost evening. There were present—Tho Mayor (Mr Norman Wood), and Crs M'Neil, Hayes, Peterson, Mlllichamp, Boon, R. Curie, D. Curie, Hutton, Albury, Hewton, Jack, and Bolton.
CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from .Messrs D. and J. L. Ferguson, who p otestcd against the work being carried out in Mo'-itagu street Tliey thought the street should not be fo mcd to its permanent level from side to side. If the work was carried out tho rateable value of their property would be materially affected. -It was resolved tliat the letter be received
Mr K. Hay, borough engineer, wrote stating that Stanley street was I*l inches too hi^h, and he had instructed the contractor to rectify the mistake. It would not bo advisable to lay tlio screenings on tho footpath. — Tho letter was received, the matter of Stanley street being left Jin tlio hands of the engineer and the Works Committee.
Henry William Nott uttered to allow the Council to remove earth to fill up the road adjacent to his property, on condition that tho Council would bear th * cost and allow the work to be carried out under his supervision. —The matter was referred to the Engineer to report on. L. Boldini asked the Council to settle his account for preparing plans and specifications for town hall.— It was resolved to inform Mr Boldini that the Council hod not yet fixed on a site for a hall, and in event of their doing so they will communicate with him.
Tho Inspector reported tliat tenders h*ul been linriteil for works in Montagu street. The estimated I cost is .C3ii3 10s (Id A survey of a deviation of tho Imam Beach road through Messrs Hoggs' property hits been completed. There is very littio difference of cost between the two lines. Tho grades are in favour Jof the lirst line, while the deviation saves four chains in distance.—Tne report was roceived. The Inspector reported onjsoveral works, and as to a number of bye-law offenders.
The Mayor said the inspector ™ not doing his work in a proper manner. ! Cr M'Nbil said it was not fair to appoint an injspeotor and then want to discharge him. Thoy should give him a fair trial. He would more that the report j bo received. The motion was carried. .motions. Cr Hewtox moved, and Cr Boltox seconded —"That Royal terrace, from Athol place to Montagu streot, be j formed 10 feet and metalled 12 feet wide, and that .tenders bo called for the samo."—Carried.
It was resolved on tho motion of Cr K. Curls - "Tliat tho main road bo formed from Bagloy's (north) for a distance of 25 chains."
Cr M'.N ml moved, and Cr Aliiuuv seconded—" That | £260 be borrowed from tlie Special Fund account, for ithe purpose of carrying out a few necessary works." I—Carried.
On the motion of Cr M'Nbil, it was resolved that the clerk write to all bye-law offenders, cautioning them not to olfend again.
W. Waghorn's tender for formation in Montagu streot, at £'255, was accepted. It was resolved that the Mayor be elected a member of tho Works and Finance Committees,
Tlie following councillors wero balloted out: For Havensbonrne Ward, Cr Albury; Sawyers' B.iy Ward, |Cr 1). Curie; St. Leonards Ward, Cr Peterson. Cr I Bolton retiros by rotation.
