Auckland, August 17th. At the Chambsr of Commerce this resolution was carried :—

" This Chamber fails to recognise any advan cages from direct steam communication whiel are not provided for by existing services ; tha* the nominal advantages would bs so question--.ble as to make any large Bubsidy for that object unjustifiable ; that the chairman be requested to compile information supporting tht opinion now expressed by the Chamber, the same to bo forwarded to Sir Geo. Groy ond the Aucklaud meaibsrs."
