Augutt 15th. The much-talked-ot gift auction In aid of the Presbyterian Church funds took place, Mannouneed, on the 12th inst. A varied and numerous list of articlesincluding live stack of all kinds, grain, dairy produce, ancy goods, Sc.-was contributed by friends and supportwaof the Church. A very large concourse of purchasers attended tho sale, which was presided OTet by Sir F S Canning, auctioneer. Tho sale was com' menced at 3 p.m., an adjournment for refreshment «a» made at 5 p.m., and after twohouiv recess the businejs was resumed, and every article disposed of at satisfactory prices by half-past 8. The sale was conduated in the usual raannar—tho goods sold to th» liuhest biddor-andtho purchasers appeared satisfied. Mr Dun, in a neat speech, congratulated the auctioneer on tho eWoient stj le in which he had performed his gratuitous services, and offered that gentleman tha hearty thanks of the Church Committee Mr Canning, in responding, stated that it would alwayi be a pleasure for him to (insist any religious body in a similar manner, no matter to what denomination they belonged. Tho net proceed! will be about £60 at least, which sum will bo a valuable addition to tho funds. The church, from the effects of lost Sunday's gale, was severely strained, and some trouble will be required ere the necessary repairs are effected and the weak part strengthened. Tho architect will visit the building to-day and arrange to have the work properly done. The bell for tho church has arrived, and was hung temporarily and rung for the first time on the eve of the gift auction. It weighs ljcwt, and will answer tho purpose very will.
