WAIHOLA GORGE.
(PROM 1 •OEMSrONDMT.)
The late stormy weater has bee» very severe for the young lambs. Lambing is not general, but still theirs are a few to be Been skipping about the fields. Early lambs pay well when they can be successfully reared ; but this, ol course, all depends upon the weatneri However, Milburn always sends Its share of (at lambs to the early market.
Tho farmers are busy towing wherever the gronnd !• dry enough, but it will not bo general tih the superfluous wator drains off. Mr Hilgendorf's store at Waihola was burned to th* ground on Thursday night. The fire broke out during the night while the family were aßteep, and when th« glaring light did waken them it was too late to say« anything. Mr Hilgendorf was Insured, but to what extent I have not he»rd. -ouio time ago Mr Hilgendort had a truck of lime burned at the Clarendon siding through the tarpaulin that covered it letting in the rain, and now the rail»ay authorities have sent him an account for the truck destroyed. This if adding insult to injury, and no mistake. If tho Government under their retrenchment policy continue ueing threadbare tarpaulins, I think they (houltl be responsible for all losses caused thereby.
