RAVENSBOURNE SCHOOL.

The Ravensbourne School was formally closed on Friday. No prizes were awarded, tho School Committee having determined that a sum of money equal to that which would have purchased prizes Bhould be devoted to providing a treat for the whole of the pupils. In the afternoon thefpupils assembled and adjourned to a neighbouring paddock, where they thoroughly enjoyed themselves until tho evening. After a lib mil fcupply of goods things had been disposed of, the little ones were dismissed. The setiinr pupils, parent*, and friends then met iv Mr Jackman's Hall. ,

Mr Stephens, the Chairman of the School Oonimittae, addressed the meeting, and spoke in the highest terms of satisfaction respecting tho teachers, sud the efficiency of the school iti general, giving the pupils some sound advice, and also stating that tho pupils had asked him to perform a very pleasing duty—namely, to present Mr Kyle, the head master, Mias E. Donald, mistress, and Miss Aitken, assistant, very handsome gifts, as small tokens of the esteem in which they (olio scholars) held their respective teachers. Mr Kyle suitably replied, thanking the pupils on bsh^lf of himself and lady assistants. A very appropriate remark was made by Mr Kyle, that tne Council ought to endeavour to got footpaths made as soon aB possible, as the state of the roads, especially m winter, was the cause of a good deal of irre/ni'ar attendance at school.

Tfte rest of tho ovening was pleasantly spent in listening to a number of very excellent recitations given by the Bonior pupils. Miss Donald's cla&s sang several school songs very creditably, and Miss Aitken contribufcsd to tho evening's erjjoymeut by singing a solo. Ater the distribution of certificates of merit to those who gained not Jess than 70 per cent maiks at three written ex uniiiatioas, the Chairman announced the commencement of tho holidays.
