5 Ton day, Junk 21st. (Before E. M'Glashan and William Frasev. Esq., J.P.V.) Drunkenness. — John Hunt, arrested in Princes street, was discharged with a caution. Matthew M'Loney and Richard Leston were each fined os. James il'Arthur wa.s fined 20s, in default, 24 hours' imprisonment. Disokdkhi.y Conduct. —Matthew Wood was ordered to pay 40s, in default, three days' imprisonment, for being drunk ; and was further charged with conducting himself in a manner calculated to provoke a breach of the peace.— Prisoner said he was sorry to occupy such a . position, and begged the Bench to deal leniently with him. He was fined 40s, with the option of three days' imprisonment.— George Tyson was charged with endeavouring to rescue the last prisoner from the custody of Constable Campbell.—ln answer to the Bench, accused said he was not drunk, as, although he had taken as much as Wood, he abstained frum mixed drinks. —The apprehending constable having had his lamp and coat damaged., prisoner was ordered to pay Lf>, in default, one month's mii 'risoumeut. Vaguancy.— Matilda Craig, who had lieen remanded to give her an opportunity of reforming, was, on the application of the Police, discharged. Impuoknt Thekt.— John Riley was charged, on the information of James Keeley, with stealing a vest and trowsers on the lilth inst., his property, valued at 40s.—Prosecutor stated that accused occupied the same bedroom with him on Friday night, and on waking on Saturday j morning witness discovered he had gone, as also the articles produced.—Sergeant Anderson apprehended prisoner in Stafford street, when he was weaving the clothes in question.—Accused made a rambling and meaningless state- I ment, and was sentenced to three months' iml>risoiiment, with hard labour. — A further charge against him of horse-stealing was adjourned for hearing, the witnesses not having reached town. Bigamy.—CharlottaCatherina Amelia Windser. Schmidt was charged, on the information of Sergeant-Major Bevan, with having, on the 15th February, at Duuedin, unlawfully and feloniously married one Michael Drj den, Louis Schmidt, her former husband, then living.— Accused, a bouncing young woman, who did not appear to be at all disconcerted, said she had engaged Mr Stout, hut he did not appear. —The Police requested a remand for a week, tmtil the witnesses came from Christchurch.. —Bail was tixed at her own recognisance of LIOO, and two sureties each of £50.
