ROAD MAKING.
TO THE EDITOB. SlB —The recesses along the main South JRoad Are being cleared out for metal, I suppose to be :again left until the wet weather sets in next * winter, before it is attempted to fill them with Btones. On account of the bad round-about-road round Saddle Hill, and broken weather; the work is abandoned, as was done last year, fcefore half the s+one is put out for the roads. If the powers that be would only take the time and trouble to look at the map of block 8, Dunedin | and East Taieri, they would see at a glance a line starting from the foot of Quarry Hill, now used for metal, infection 57, towards section 6, thence at an angle through application 1492, and -down the boundaries of section 5 and application 1509-to the District Road line. If some such •course was followed and a road opened up, it, >■ would save the Government a good round sum annually, and be a boon to the whole district, .- ;as it is one of nature's road lines to the hills, and ■not a forced line sore on man and beast, as is the •case with the traffic which has now to go up to ■the quarry.— I am, 6c, Onlookeb.
