Martha Howe, a girl of 15, was charged with this offence. She had lately been brought before tho Court by Sub-Inspector 'Mallard, on her father having sent her by •Jhereelf to town. On that occaaion no charge was preferred agiinat her, and His Worship the Mayor expressed his intention of sending her bar.k to lu:r parents. She was, however, placed in a situation in town, which she left, and was found yesterday in a brothel. She was remanded /or a day, with a view to her being sent back to Palmerston. A charge against David Mason of failing to give a good account of his being in a house of ill fame for a lawful purpose, when required by tho police to do so, was dismissed, MrM'Kcay, for accused, objecting to the information.
MI.HCELLANEOOS. Charges against another David Mnion, of allowing a horse to wander, and Jacoo lurnbull, of allowing water supplied him to run waste, were dismissed. Norman Wood, for neglecting to sufficiently light scaffolding on the footpath ; and James Simpson, for allowing a cow to wander on the Main South Road, were each fined Is, and costs. William Marshall, for allowing five cows to wander in York Place, was fined &s, and costs. William Ncwburne, for suffering the chimney of his house in Pitt street to be on tire, was fined 2s 6d, and coste.
