Bye-law Cases.—David Ross was summoned by David Aitld, cabman, fen- refusing to pay the proper fare. T-he defendant anA two members -of Iris family, it appeared, were driven by the complainant in his cab from the old jetty to Heriofc Row. The defendant offered tlve ooiaiplainant an amount; equal to the fare to the White Horse Hotel, and Is 3d for a quarter of an hour's hire, the length of time for coming to Heriot Kow, while complainant wanted 4s. Case dismissed. William Wynne had the charge against him of driving a cow his property upon the footway in Cumberland street dismissed, there being uo provision in the Bye-laws meeting such cases. A charge against Henry Strong, of riding his horse oil the footway in Cumberland street, Avas dismissed on a similarground. William Wynne, for allowing a cow Co wander hi Union street, was fined 2s 6<l aud costs. A charge against William Watson, of adding to a building in MaitlandL street without permission,,, was dismissed with a caution. It appeared that the permission had been obtained a day before the date of the summons. David Bethune was summoned for allowing & iborse to wander. The defendant pleaded that it had got loose accidentally. The icaee was dismissed with, a caution. Jdkm M'lLaughlan and George Harrington, for leaving their horses aud cabs unattended, and James Smith, plying for hire off the proper stand, were each fined Is and ousts. Andrew Craig, for allowing a cow to wander, was fined 2s Od and costs. •
The Water Works Act.—John Walle^ summoned for allowing the Company's waterto run, hiui the .charge against him dismissed with a caution. . S>
