Invercargih,, January; 24th. The polling for a member to represent Invercargill in. the General Assembly took place to-day, and after a keen r contest, resulted as follows :—Calder, 142; Lumsdea, 90. Mr Calder 1b in favour of the Financial Scheme, if modified, while Mr Lumsden is in favour of it as it stands. The majority for Mr- Calder is much greater than was anticipated. , Mr Reid commenced his address to the electors at 8 o'clock in the Theatre, which; was densely crowded.
