THE ROSLYN ELECTION. TO THE EDITOR.
Snt—Mr Regs, it appears, is before ua as a candidate for the General Assembly. Upon1 what grounds he expects to be elected I can-! not conceive. He is certainly a landowner in the. district, ao are others. Perhaps he thinks Mr Driver is hot liked. Bat is Mr Boss sure that he himself is liked generally ?! He (Mr Boss) ia tolerably well known/but that is sometimes a disadvantage. The f act! is Mr Driver we know publicly—Mr Koss only by his actions in the local boarda, and: those have made him more enemies than friends. It is principally to him that the Roslyn district ia indebted for two petty' village schools (whereit is iniposaitle to meet fully the educational requirements' of each scholar), instead of one large school at the* Drill-shed, divided into classes with several1 teachers, equal in point of fact as. it might have been, to a Grammar School, and situated so ss to suit all portions of the district. ' In the Road Board, of which he was chairman for some years, and where it is known all over the district he did. pretty much as he liked, the money all went m one direction —:on roads leading to-that corner near bis residenoe ;■ and. so disgusted were the elec- • tors that they came in "a body, put in some of ; the old' Board who had wished to do right, but had not been able to stand the sophistical and plausible arguments of the chairman, and kept Mr Ross out, though he-was admitted by all to be the ablest in road matters. -
■ Many besides the writer are struck with the extraordinary assurance of a gentleman expecting to be put in without any exertion or explanation on his part, as if he were a Gladstone or the like. The electors well know that if Mr Ross was elected, all his intentions would, lite his roads, converge to one point—self.—l am, &0.,
An Elector,
