TO THE EDITOR.
Sib—Your correspondent, "Old Identity," is very good to set me right in my facts, and inform me that Mr Macandrew's standing- as a member of the Assembly is of so remote a date.
At the last election of Superintendent, in 1867, Mr Macandrew made political capital by the cry of " persecution by self-righteous hypocrisy, V & c ., and thereby secured a great many supporters from a feeling of pity for hia- faults and sympathy with his misfortunes.
tfrom that date I consider he was politically regenerated. If Mr Macandrew had been guilty of any faults (and "Oid Identity" or any one may judge for himself, fiom the political records and Government Gazstte of 'he proviace, how far tha accusations against him weie sustained), they hay« been condoned by his election in 1867, and I for one will condemn any attempt to stir up the cloaca of the remote "wretched' past" of that gentleman's career. Mr Macandrew must be contea*, to be judged by his acts during the past four years ; if, not, let himself or his friends disturb the stagnant pool. His opponents will have none of it. —I am, &c. Behind the Scenes.
