WIDENING PRINCES STREET.
I A deputation, consisting of Messrs Do | Carlo, Livingston, and Edmond, waited |on His Honor jthe Superintendent and i the Secretary of Land and Works yesterday, at 11 o'clock a.m., in reference to a resolution in connection with the widening of Princes street, passed by the Provincial Council on October 24th, 1564, the resolutionbeingasifollows,:— , ;:T ; <'/, ♦'Mr E. frontago to Princes street (at proscnt occupied by tho tenants on tho Mausc Reserve) to tho extent of granting the land to Bond street. Tho Government would then have to givo contpensation^ to tho present tenants occupying land fronting -Princea streofc. With reforenco to tho land known as tho Maori Reserve, extending from the end of Mr Fisher's property to Hopo street, possession could bo immediately, taken, as tho Government had arranged, in accordance with a proposition niodo by Mr J. Cargill, to givo a piece of ground at tho rear, equal' to that taken from tho front. Plana had been submitted, and' Messrs Briscoo and Co. had already built on tho land at tho rear of tho property, and ottered in exchange. It wsus also pointed out that, had' tho arrangement proposed been carried into clf«ct shortly after tho proposition was made, a great saving might Have accrued, inasmuch as it would now require about LSOOO, and if tho matter were loft over for a longur time from LIO.OOO to L 20,000 might^bo necessary to widen tho street iv a lino with tho preeent Provincial Government buildings. Tho deputation was roferred to the factor of tho Manse Reserve, tho matter being left in abcyanco until Friday, whon a meeting of tho trustees is called for tho purpose of considering, and, if pooaiblo, settling it
