TESTIMONIAL. TESTIMONIAL U, Captain JOHN" HENDKY. Commonilfiifr the Itobcrt Henderson, from the Clyde to New Zealand. Sill —Our voyage is now nigh an end, and a pleasant, prosperous voyngo it h:is been. Upon thi3 wo wpnld oiler you our most sincere congratulations. We cannot pra-ume to suppn.-o that this expression of our feeling can carry with it any great weight; but if ever such an expression is appreciated by a comtnandcr, this will perhaps now be specially gratifying to jou at the termination of jour first voyago as mutter. Not only to your energy and skill sis a seaman would we bear testimony, but also to the kindly feeling ami sympathy which you invariably showed to thore muier your cliarge, and tho promptitude with which you attended *O ttieir wants. We know that you hail rtgul.itions to enforce; theso you Haw enforced, and faithful to your employers, you acted for the best to those under your charge. In our long voyage but few events have occurred to throw a shadow over us. Two of our number have we left behind in ocran's depths. "After life's litful fever, they sleep well." Now, Sir, that you are for a timo to be released from the heavier of these cares and anxieties which must weigh on the mind of v man in your position, if he rightly appreciate the responsibility reposed in him, we would cxprr&s to you our thanks for the interest you have taken in all of us, and tho hope that you may long be spared to hold a post such as you hold, and hold k> nbly.—Wo are, lie. [Here follow the signatures of the passengers.] CAPTAIN BENDRY REPLIED:— T ADIES AND GENTLEMEN—I feel JLJ highly grateful and honoured in receiving this flattering and numerously-signed Testimonial which I now hold in my hand. I have to thank you nil for tho kind feelings herein expressed; I have to thank you, on behalf ol the Company I now represent, as anything I have done to enhance the pleasure or comfort of the passengers placed under my charge is only following up their express wishes and instructions. I have also to thank you for the honour you have conferred on mo personally : and I trust in future voyages I may always merit similar expression of good will. In a passenger ship, it is nearly impossible (where rules and regulations have to be kept) that I could avoid giving offence- to some ; but I am glad to soe, from this numerously-signed Testimonial, that by far the greater ]>ortion of your numlwr have seen that the enforcement of the said rulcw nnd regulations were absolutely necessary for their health and comfort. The two melancholy eventa that have hupixmed, in the death of two of our number, was much to be deplored ; but let us not repine at thiir gain, as we trust they are now enjoying eternity with their Saviour. For your kind wishes in regard to my future advancement, I feel obliged; and 1 trust I may always sail as captain of a thin where the passengers arc an willing to be advised for their good as you have lieen. In concluding, I wish you all health and prosperity in the laud where you arc going ; and may the hopes that are beating high in the bosoms of all of you never be blighted. 1 ugiin return you my sincere thanks, with my well-wishes for you all in tho land of your adoption. TESTIMONIAL TO JAMES HONOUR DUNCAN, Chief OfHccr or tiie Robert Henderson, from the Clydo to New Zealand. SIR —Whetheryouroxcellentseamanship has commended you more to all on board this ship than have your kind and genial mamu-rs, it would be difficult indeed to suy. Attentive ever to your duty, and ever with a kind word for everyone, you have—to quote a line from an old H.-a song—yon have, like honest Harry Bluff, shown us "The luurt cf a truo British sailor"—you have- won the respect of all on board. We cannot leave this ship without offering to you our very best wishes for the future. We trust that, before long you will (ill a position higher than that which you now fill. The loss of «0 clHcicnt an oil leer must fall upon sonic commander, but such a consideration cannot exclude yon from a position for which your cMialitiu so well suit you.
