REPLY TO SHINGLE THE FIFTEENTH.
[To the Editor of the Daily Times.) Sir-So, Mr Shingler, you once went on a fishing excursion., ''in the company of a sage old Nelsoo. of the rod ;" and after angling a little, had the good fortune to hook a famous jack trout. Many men, Mr. Shingler, have done the same ; but it appears to me a pity that, ia place of a Neison of the old school, you were not accompanied by a modern one, who could have taught you how to sink " bores " of the largest calibre at fabulous distances, and escape yourself untouched— a pheasant occupation, certainly, but withal dangerous. . My object in writing to the Daily Tines was not to shew that I was caught by your bait, but rather to prove that you were angling with a spurious one to catch (as you express it) the " sudgeofis" of Ota^o; in short, that you were guilty of a plagiarism. Have you refuted that1? I say, no. T a-u just 33 much with you as you could wish, in your endeavour to expose vice and folly; and many of your "Shingles" I have read with pleasure, but do not misapply the motto of the Daily Times in my case. I will give you a motto from an oldSpaper at home, that may equally apply to you. viz.— " Create and foster public opinion and make it racy of the soil." Thati-i what I wish you to do. dear "Shingler,' and if so, you shall have my'thanks--little as you may value them—the thanks of the community, I have no doubt, and no carpinac critics. I am, sir, &c . WALLA.BY.
