At Messrs A.. G. Fisher and Co.'s auction Tooms there was a large sale of bulk beer, flour, «nd general merchandise, but the attendance ofthe trade seemed to be more with the view of seeing what was going on than buying, as almost the whole of the goods offered had to be passed In. At Messrs M'Landress, Hepburn and Co.'s Tooms a few sales were effected, but at very low prices. By the. vessaU which have arrived in port since the date of our last issue, we have re--ceived principally timber and hardware merchan•dise, but very little breadstuffsor liquids. In the ■case of the markets generally, we have little or no alteration to note. Trade still continues flat, little improvement is expected until the season is advanced far enough, to admit of agriTHIS DAY,

cultural operations being fairly commenced. The market is pretty well supplied with the various commodities. ri he price of some articles shew a downward tendency as compared with our last quotations. A. satisfactory trial of the Oataaru flour has been made by local consumeis. To give it full justice, however, it would require to remain in stock for some time longer. We quote as follows: —Flour, ('amaru Heani Mill, 131) per ton; Adelaide do, L 35 to LBB do; wheat, for grinding. 10s per bushel; do, for seed, 13s do ; oats, 5s 3J to 6s Cd do; barley, 7s do ; rye, 10«, do ; grass eeed, 10s do ; hay, 18 per ton ; potatoes, "L Bdo ; onions, L2tS do. Invercargill—We have dates to the 9th instant. The Daily Neios oi the Bth reports as follows:—"The event most worthy of notice during the week is the fall in the price of flour, which has gradually declined until from JL29 to L3O is the figure which can be obtained for best Adelaide, and from L 26 to L 27 for Tasmanian; and as we have no\' tolerably fair stocks in hand, it. is likely, taking into consideration the state of the Market in the other colonies, that some time will'elapse before the article will again ri c in this market. Bread, however, still remains at Is 3d the 41b. loaf." There is a steady demand for root crops, but hitherto the supply has been quite equal to the demand. Potatoes readily realise from L 8 10$ to L 9 10s, and turnips and carrots meet with sale at remunerative prices. The supply of green vegetables is exceedingly scanty. Cabbages are not to be met with in quantity, and very small ones are sold at as high as 6d each. There have been two or three auction sales of groceries and oilmen's stores during the week, when very fair prices have been obtained. Mr F- Chapman sold by auction the lease and fittings of the Alhamhra Hotel for L 270. We have a tolerable supply of dairy produce. Butter is quoted «t from lid to Is Id wholesale; fresh butter readily realises 3s per lb retail. New laid eggs are very scarce, and are retailed according to quality at from 3s 6d to 4s. Game is also coming in tolerably freely, especially wild pigeon's, which are retailed at from ls.6d to 2s per pair. v"iid ducks are not so plentiful, and are sold at from 2s to 2s 6d per couple. The weather has been vnry fine during the week, and has been very favorable for agricultural operations. We hear that ploughing is still carrie«.l on vigorously in the country districts, and that a considerable' breadth of land is being broken up preparatory to being laid down in crop. Canterbury.-The Lyttelton Times of the 9th, reports as follows:— Owing probably to the fine weather, the attendance at the market has been more numerous than on previous occasions. There was a large supply of wheat on Saturday, which was in much better condition than the samples recently brought in. The price continues to be 10s to 10s 6<i per bushel, wholesale. This was the price of wheat of Canterbury growth. Our Dunedin advices announce a panii! in the flour market, owing to the arrival of 520 tons from "Chili; but the fall in prices has not, as yet, affected our market, in which the price is still L3O to L3O 10a per ton, wholesale, and about 32s to 32s 6d per lOOlbs retail. Several large shipments of oats have taken place; the price in our market is about 3; 2d per bushel. Nothing has been done in peas, maizs, &c., and there has been hardly any demand for sharps or bran. Potatoes continue unaltered in price, viz., about L 9 wholesale, and LlO retail. Notwithstanding the large quantities already to hand, and the expected importations, those grown in the province are still enquired for. '.Beans'are very scarce, hardly any being brought into the market There is. an ample supply of barley; the price is about 5s per bushel, wholesale, but this quotation is merely nominal. Hay has .been abundantly supplied, and fetches about L3toL3los; but at the stack it may be purchased in large quantities at from L 2 to L 2 l(h.
