This Society was established in May, .1862^ ! for the purpose of relieving the distress of the poorer inhabitanta of the colony, without reference to creed or nation. •'.■■■'•: The committee haye to report that since October, 1862, to 31st December,'lß63, they have ! relieved an average number of 35 cases weekly. The receipts have amounted to £1583 9s 7d, and the disbursements to £1421 Is 4d. . : The Institution is now affording weekly relief to 40 cases, and the demands on its assistance are continually increasing.
