EXPLORATION TO THE WEST COAST.
(To the Editor of the Daily Times.) Sia, —I was glad to obsorve in the columns of jour contemporary of thU day, that a Mr Cameron had made a successful trip to the West Coast, and it was more gratifying to learn that although travelling at the same time, but in different directions, we had one common object in view, that is the opening up of the West Coast. We certainly have been more fortunate in the country discovered by us, but at the same time I cannot refrain on behall of myself and partner, from stating that Mr Cameron is deserving of the highest praise for his indomitable courage and per;e--vevance. Stilt we regret that so much labor should have been thrown away, ai it is very evident that Mr Cameron reached the shores of the West Coast, in the Canterbury Province, and not in thi», that heiug one great distinctive feature ketween his trip and ours. This is not said invidiously but I think it right that the public should be able to judge ot the two discoveries, particularly as we have applied for a reward and he has not; however, whether the Government accede to our request or not, we claim to be the first men that ever stood upon the shores of the West Coast of this Province, that is, joing overlaad to the same.
I am sir, yours, &c, Saml. Symms.
