Colonel ofthe 32nd Regiment, and commander of the troops in the lonian Islands. Sir John Inglis died on the 27th September, at Homburg. It will he remembered that this distinguished officer was in command of the garrison at Lucknow. For that noble defence he was made a Knight Commander of the Bath. Subsequently he was appointed to the important post of commander of Her Majesty's troops in the lonian Islands. But his health, shaken by the long anxiety and desperate privation of the defence of Lucknow, could not be re-established in so> adverse a climite as that to which his new duties consigned him. He continued to sink until his medical advisers thought it their duty to recommend that he should try'tlie nvre congenial air of Germany. At Homburg he obtained the advice of several eminent, men.
