A portion of the expedition for the, exploration of the Western Country has started, and a further portion starts to-day. The schooner 'Annie carried stores and fourteen men. - The Blanche will sail this morning with further stores and a-party of sixteen. Qn Monday, 17tlir November instant,,the female child of a shepherd"-named George >Vallacc/in the service of John Swan, Esq., and at the Windfay?,' in the rural municipality of G amorgan, was found dead near his hut under the following circumstances : -At eight a.nt. "Wallace lelt home for Ross to procure mc-iical advice for his wifp, who had ben unwell for some days previously. Wa'lace left a woman mined SandiV liter in charge of h-swife and child. On hiq return from Ross he was inßt by a man n.uucd Johnson, who informed him of the death of his child. Johnson proceeded to Ross, reported the matter to the police, when D. C. Shea, with Dr lliordan, accompanied by JohLSon, returned to Wallace's but.
y On airival, Dr lliordan examined the dead body of the child, and founl a cut made with a knife, about three inches in length, extending through the anus to ths spine, and the intestines taken out. The un-' happy mother wa* sitting in bed quite unconscious of what was going on. The woman Slater made the following statement: —:',About ten minutes after Wallace left, his wife commenced a furious attack.upon* her with a broomstick, inflicting several wounds upon her head.. Slater made off towards her home {is fast as she could, followed for about 100 yards by Mrs Wallace. When Slater left, the child was plajing outside the hut. In less than an hour, John Freeman, a shepherd in the employ of C. A. Hanison, Esq., called at the hut; he saw 3lrs Wallace walking in front of the hut, with a bluiket oi.ly, round fier, and discovered ihe dead body of the child, near a tree, 100 yards fwm the hut."
