Daily Times Office, Friday Evening. " The improvement in trade which has for the Jast few weeks being slowly but steadily taking place, lias been more marked during the last two or three days. The liig'ily favourable accounts which have been received from the Dunstan, and the rich discoveries that have been made in every direction, have imparted a considerable stimulus to business, and a certain amount of briskness has set in. To-day it was evident from the thronged appearance of many of the ■wholesale store?, and the number of loaded drays which left the town, tliat a considerable up-country toade to going ou. The escort this fortnight again exhibits a gratifying increase, the quantity being 19,937 ozs Gdwts,the amount from the Dunstan being 13,005 ozs. As will be seen in our mining summary, rich discoveries are the order ot the day, and many of the finds have certainly been astoundingly rich. The iirst cargo of cattle from Gipps Land, ex Helen S. Page, we.ro landed in splendid condition, and realised very satisfactory prices. The steamship Victory, in the floating of which Mr Scott, the eugineer, has been engaged for several months, has parted in two, and there are not the slightest hopes of saving her. Export entries were to-day passed at the Custom House lor 3400z 4dwt of gold, the duty paid being 1.1 5s 6cl. The Customs Revenue for the day amounted to L 717 10s 9d, the principal items being:—Brandy, 187 galls L 943; whisky, 67 galls, L3O 3s j gin, 256^ galls, Lll9 9s 6d ; wine, 156 gals, L 23 83 ; beer, 836 pals, L4l 16s ; tobacco,'l,Bos lb, L 134 19s 6d ; sugar, 22,390 lb, L c;3 5s lOd ; tea, 850 lb, Ll4 3s 4d ; measurement goods, L 92 10s 4d. «Bnr»i«iinr«inn»mMiM■"■■—"" IM—™—!—waaa—wl""
