PORT CHALMERS, NOVEMBER 28.

Wind at noon, N.W., light breeze. Weather, ■warm and close. High water on the 29th instant at Port Chalmers, 9.7 a.m., and 9.41 p.m.; at Dunedin an hour later. ARRIVAL.. Eemark, brig, 207 tons, Duncan, from Wellington, November 2-ith, 124 head of cattle, three passengers. "Wright, Robertson, and Co., agents. DEPARTURES. Planet, p.s, for the Taieri, goods and passengers. Lady Barkly, p.s., for Waikouaiti, goods and passengers.

The brig Remark arrived to-day mtli another freight of cattle from Wellington, consigned to Messrs Wright, Robertson, and Co. They are principally young store cattle. The Remark had a fine run down, having left on Monday, and only four head died—tins total number landed being 124. Several vessels are ready for sea, and are likely to sail or tow out to-morrow. Among them is the Cheviot, which is bound for Callao. Mr Scofct proceeded to-day to Wickliffe Bay, with a number cf the hands who were formerly employed On the "works connected with the floating of the Victory. They took with them several Californian pumps, with the intention of pumping out the vessel, so as to ascertain the feasibility of again attempting to float her. We may expect more numerous arrivals from Melbourne very shortly, several vessels being ready to sail from the date of our last advices, and, from, the character of the present news from the diggings, and the known disposition of many Victorian miners still to visit Olago, this season, it is reasonable to expect also, a considerable increase of passenger trailic. Tor this increase of trade due preparation is being made, by several additions to the Ueet of small steamers and lighters engaged between the Port and Duuedin. It may be well for shipmasters to know that a Lodge of Freemasons, known as the Port Chalmers Marine Lodge, was inaugurated on Thursday evening. Tne inauguration took place in the large new utore opposite ihc .Royal Hotel, the building having been most elegantly decorated for the occasion, and, on the termination of the mystic proceedings, a large party, consisting of members of the new lodge, members of the two Dunedin Lodges, and other masons, met in Hoeves's spacious howling saloon, where a grand banquet had been prepared by Mr Crickmore of the 11 oyal. This place had also been converted into a handsome banquet-hall, by a tasteful disposition of evergreens- and bunting, a^d with a large party of goo ! fellows well met, a most pleasant evening1 was passed ; the Dunedin members returning at an early hour' in the morning, by the Pride of the Yarra, which had been chartered for their conveyance.
