In addition to the above there has been 216 oz brought down by Escort from the Teviot. The total quantity of gold brought down by escort since the opening of the gold fields to the present time (a period of only sixteen months) is 487,821 oz. The quantify of GoM exported from the opening of the gold fields to 31st December, 18 31. was 187,095 oz, value £727,3-20. In audition to the gold brought down by Escort a large quantity has been brought in by private hand. ■ ln^ lty cx P°rtei sincfi the opening of the fields is 544.703 ounces ; and we find, on enquiry, that there is at present in hands of the various Banks in Dunedm and the Gold Receiver at the Treasury 15 150 omces, thus making a total of 559 903 ounces. The balance over the quantity that has come in by Escort 487,821, is 72,032 ounces, which shows the quantity' brought down privately. For the sake cf clearness, we subjoin the following?table :— ozs.
