ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE
ASIATIC CHOLERA. (To the Editor of tfie Otago DAiiiY Times.) Str, -In your, issue of this day, you notify a death from kt Asiatic Cholera," —sudi an announcement is likely to alarm the timid and embarrass our commercial relations with other Provinces. Mr Hocken should therefore publish the particulars of the case : in order that the medical profession here and elsewhere, may have an opportunity of forming an opinion of it.
A hope and belief is expressed by the medical attenda'it that the case may prove sporadic. Unfortunately a sporadic case of pestilential cholera has never been known. But if the case was one of Asiatic, or pesti'ential cholera, it will be a remarkable fact in the history of this pestilence, that it began and ended in one person, in a country where it was previously unknown.
Edward Hulmb, M.D., &c, Provincial Surgeon. Dunedin Hospital, November 15, 1862.
