The ground ot defence was that the chimnies were as safe as any iron piping could be. His worship adjourned the rasa till to-day. and in the meantime the police will instruct a competent jwr-on to report upon the state of the stoves and piping.

Fklo.nv.— John Joseph was charged on the information of Henry Charles Harstlett with having- on the 2«ith instant, stolen a brick machine and pug mill, value LlOi. Mr. Smith appeared for the complainant and Mr. M'Gregor for the accused. It was shown that the accused had removed the machiuft in question from Mr. Harstleft's ground during the hitter's absence, h-ai it appeared that he had used no concethncnt in the matter; it was also argmd that the brick machine and appurtauces belonged to the accused, fie having credited Mr. Harstlett for Ihe L 25. furnished by him for the purchase of the machine. His worship decided that the machine had been taken with no felonious intent; it was simply a question of account. The prisoner was discharged. The Court adjourned at one o'clock.
