The Argw of 11th August says :—The shipments of gold during the week have comprised 690z. per Surrey/for Shangliai, and 49,2060z. per Moravian, for London, making the total amount shipped during the current year 1,516,2580z., including 219,0710z. transhipped from New Zealand vessels. The total shipments from the Victorian mines stand at 1,097,1870z-/ Up to the corresponding date of last year, the shipments of Victorian gold amounted to 1,150,8210z. The continued rains and floods have rendered the week a dull one in all branches of trade, and some change is eagerly looked for by all classes. The rates of carriage have been too high to admit of any large orders being1 executed for the country districts, and speculation has been very inactive in Melbourne. A review of tho transactions of the week will be found in another column.
