Electors — - A Vacancy having occurred iri the representation of the town of Dunedin, for the House of Representatives, by the resignation of Air.-Edward M'Glashan, I am induced to submit my name ibr your consideration and support. There are many circumstances connected with the prosperity of the province, which make it desirable that he who lias been elected to the Chief Executive Office, should be present in the House of Representatives to watch over the interests of the Province; independently of this consideration I believe it to be expedient with reference, to the influence which may be ligitimately brought to bear on the decision of questions connected with the disposal of the .Crown Lands, that yon should have more than one member, whose opinions'are unmistakable on the necessity of preserving" the land for occupation by man. I am so convinced of-this—that sooner: than jeopardise a movement whicli I have much at heart, I am willing touhdertake additional duties if so desired. My political opinions are not unknown. A frank, fearless, and impartial examination of every question wliich is presented for consideration—a jealous defence of Provincial independence in all these points in which such freedom is essential. The introduction of some new system which will bring the seat of Government closer to us, aud the preservation .of the honor of the colony from external insult, and national disgrace, are principles wliich would guide me, were I to succeed in becoming your Representative. Yours faithfully, J. RICHARDSON.
