On Saterday the body of a man was found on the I beach at Porakaune Bay, about four miles from Otago Heads, and was brought up to Port Chalmers • tor identification and for the purpose of an inquest 1 being held as to the probable cause of death. The | body,- which was found by ex-pi!ot Driver, was much | decomposed, great part of the face being gone, as well .as the flesh on the bauds and legs. It bears no cx- ' tesnal marks of violence, and, from its general appearance, seems to be that of a seafaring man—probably of one of the unfortunate men who were drowned in . attemptingtodesert from the ship " Young America," , during her stay at Port Chalmers. ThiTbody in the \ meantime lies at the Port Chalmers Hotel, awaiting the Coroner's inquest, which takes place to-day.
