Flour has steadily increased a few shillings a ton until best brands command £14 to £14 10; and at Adelaide flour is in demand at £12; wheat, 4s.6d.,little.offerring; brandy, bottled beer, andseveral other imports have slightly improved since arrival of English advices, and on the whole our markets are in a tolerably satisfactory condition. The amount of gold brought by the Aldinga, accompanied as it was with numerous orders, lias tended to produce considerable activity amongst houses engaged in the Otago trade. We extract the following from the Argus of 20th ultimo : — There has been a fair inquiry in the import market, and transactions have been at yesterday's rates,. Flour has been in improved inquiry, and a temporary advance of 10s. per ton lias been obtained. Adelaide, good town brands, have been placed at £13, and best sorts at £14 per ton. Oats continue in good inquiry, at full prices. Bran is in demand, and cannot be procured under 15d. per bushel. By auction, Messrs. Fraser and Cohen disposed of about 6000 bags grain, ex Seaman's Bride, from Hong Kong, at from £8 7s. 6d. to £8 10s. per ton. Messrs. Greig and Murray held a sale at the stores of Messrs. Young and Martin, and placed the residue of the cargo of the Eliza Goddard at the following prices:—Java sugars—fine white crystals, at £42 65.; medium white, from £38 to £38 155.; middling to fine brown, from £34 ss. to £36 15s. per ton. Java coffee (duty paid), with all faults, from 6|d. to 7§d. per lb. . The wool sale held at Messrs. J. H. dough and Co.'s warehouses passed off with considerable animation. The attendance of buyers was numerous, and the result of the sale showed better returns than under the circumstances of the home market reports by late advices could have been reckoned on. Of 2500 bales offered, about 1500 bales were placed. Greasy wools brought from 7d. to 13fd.; fleece, from 17£ d. to 24d.; and a parcel of superior scoured realized tie high price of 2s. 6£d. per lb.
