COMMERCIAL.
The Melbourne papers report an increase in the demand of %oo:h for this market. With every-pros-pect of an increaiinp; influx of population from Australia and the otlm* Provinces of this e-rvony, t!i-Ti*e is no doubt that a much latter amount of business will be transacted both with Melbourne and the home markets. Business here at present is in a healthy state, and stocks, with but few exceptions, are moving- off steadily. Flour still continues dull, an I a large stock on hand. Biscuits are a dru^. The brsk demand for Ales and Spirits, in bulk and case, still continues, and prices are firm. On the'whole, although the commerce of this port has lost much of the speculative character of that obtained a few weeks a-?o- our merchants and storekeepe -s are doing1 a profitable..business.
