'Fhe weather has been showery, and colder; Produce distributing merchants report a brisk, business. .■ Oats.—Thfe Southern market is reported easier, aha A Oartons are quoted at 5s 9d and B Gartons at os7d f.0.b., s.i., for early delivery. Locally the inquiry continues dull, and good stGc'kS are held. For Algerians the market is steady. .Bright lines suitable for dressing are worth from 6s 6d to 6s" 9d f.0.b., s.i., and dressed'and clipped 8s f.0.b., s.i. A consignment of between 2000 and 3000 sacks of good! bright heavy Australian is being cleared at 7s 6d ex wharf. Further consignments are expected. -Potatoes—The ..market is firmer, Southern quality are in short supply, but & shipment is due next week. The quotation is 07 :f.<r.b,, s.i., for July and August delivery!- In the meantime there is a> good demstnd, and local lines are selling at £ll ex rail. • Onions. —The market is overstocked, and inquiry is dull. Local onions are at £lO 10s ex rail. Chaff. —The market is firm and stocks light, with a good demand. The quotations are —Good bright Canterbury, £lO 10s f.0.b., s.i.; prime Blenheim, £ll 5s f.0.b., s.i.; prime Rangitikei, £l2 os on trucks at Marton. Bran and Pollard". —There is a good demand for'all lines offering. Fowl Wheat. —The publication of fixed rates ■ has not improved the position so far as supplies are concerned. There is a keen inquiry and it is difficult to secure quotations. BURNStDE MARKET. (Per PfPRB Ansncint'ntO DUNBDIN, April 21. There wert; iarge yardings in all fat stock departments at Bttmside to-day. In the case of sheep tile quality was very poor, and prices, on the whole, showed a weakening tendency, which was in a- large measure attributable to the fact that the local freezing works are overstocked. Fat Cattle—2s9 were yarded, the quality beipg fair. The demand at the commencement of the sale was moderate, but before the close of the sale prices had receded fully 20s per he-ad. Prime bullocks made from £l9 to £24, medium £l6 to £lB, light and unfinished from £l3 10s, prime heifers from £l4 to £l7 10s, medium from £lO 10s to £l3, light from £8 10s. Store Cattle—There was a much reduced yarding of rather pbor quality. Cows suitable for canning . purposes were quite neglected. • Bulls and young cattle also lacked buyers' attention. The only class which maintained late rates were well-grown steers in good forward condition. . r Sheep—There was a large yarding of 4118, the bulk of which was. of poor quality, very few prime sheep being forward. For all prime quality wethers and ewes competition was good at an' advance of Is. per head, while inferior and \ were neglected, and showed a - decline; 'of '-2s' : to oS; per head, compared with last week's rates.;,; - Extra prime heavyweight wethers brought 50s 3d to 52s 9d, prime 42s 6d to 48s 6d, medium 37s to 41s, light and unfinished from 30s up. A few specially selected heavy-weight ewes brought 48s to 535, prime 36s 6d to 41s 9d, medium 31s to 355, light and aged from 23s up. Fat Lambs —11.69 were penned. There was a good yarding of fair quality. Owing to the local freezing works being congested freezing buyers were not keen operators, in consequence of wTnch tlio sale was of a dragging nature and prices receded fully 2s 6d per head on late rates. Values ranged from 16s to 30s per head. Pigs—Only a medium number were penned, and prices were again easier. Baconers made from 9d to 10 Jd per lb for best, and porkers from 9Jd to lid. ADDINGTON MARKET.

(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 21. There were good average yardings of all classes of stock- at Addington market to-day, except fat lambs. Prices eased considerably for fat cattle, freezing buyers not operating, but , for fat sheep and lambs the demand was firm, and recent rates were maintained. Store Sheep—The yarding was smaller than at recent sales. The market was much improved for all classes, particularly for wethers, of which there was a. bigger proportion than usual forward. The excellent feed prospects throughout Canterbury are having a stabilising effect on the market. Forward lambs 19s 6d to 24s 6d, ordinary 15s 6d to- 19s, cull 10s to 12s 6d, good ewe lambs 28s, ordinary 18s 9d to 25s 6d, good 2-tooth ewes to" 32s 6d, ordinary 25s to 28s 6d, 2, 4, 6, and 8-tooth ewes. 25s 9d to 325, 4 and,s-year ewes 20s to 275, failingmouth 18s to 235, good 4, 6, and 8-tooth ewes to 38s, s.m. ewes 22s 6d to 30s 6d, good 4, 6, and 8-tooth wethers 30s .to 345, inferior: 26s to 28s 6d, good 2-tooth wethers to 30s, inferior to 255. Fat Lambs —2700 were yarded, compared with 4300 last week. The sale was on a parity with recent ones, freezing buyere securing the bulk of the entry- Extra- prime lambs brought from 33s 6d to 41s, prime 27s 6d to 32s 6d, medium 25s to 27s 3d, lighter 21s 6d to 24s 9d. The fat- sheep market was good throughout-, freezing buyers operating to a- considerable extent. Extra, prime wethers, 45s 6d to 53s ; prime, 37s 3d to 44s 9d; medium, 31s 3d' to 36s 9d; lighter, 28s 9d to 30s 9d; extra prime ewes, to 465; prime, 35s 6d to 43s 6d; medium, 31s to'3ss; lighter, 23s to 30s (id. , Fat Cattle. —355 were penned, against 425 last week. There was a distinct drop in anything but prime quality; also much easier for best breeding ewes. Freezing buyers were frequent. Extra prime steers, to £24 7s 6d; prime, £l7 15s to £2S; medium;, £l3 los- to £l6 10s; lighter, £lO 2s 6d to £l3; prime heifers, £l2 10s to £18; ordinary, £7 to £l2; prime cows, £l2 10s to £l7; ordinary, £7 12s to £ll 15s. Store Cattle. —There was a- full yarding, but a spiritless demand. On 'account of the freezing works being unable to kill cattle at present potters were a- drug. ■ Dairy Cattle.—A good sale. Springing heifers, up to £2O 10s ; second and' third calvere, to £l6. Fat Pigs.—Choppers, to £9; heavy ■baconers, to £8 10s; average price per lb, 10Jd to. lOJd; heavy porkers, to £5 ss; average price per lb, Is.
