(By Skirmisher.) Dannevirke's second day on. Monday. Hacihg at Ohinemnri, Opnnake, and Clifdcn on Wednesday. All sports will be on the road to Waimate or. Thursday next, when the annual race meeting takes place.' Racing at 3lastertou, one day, next Saturday. _ Gtneral entries for the C.J.C. Easier fixture close next Friday, at 8 p.m. Handicaps for the C.J.C* Great Easter and Great Autumn Handicaps are due on . • ■ First acceptances for the Great Easter and Great Autumn Handicaps are due next Friday, at 8 p.m. - Rov Reed is now at the head of the winning jockeys, with 381 wins to his credit. . . - Jack Pearson did the hat tnck at the Akaroa meeting last week, when he took a trio to Motukarara, and scored a race with each, viz., Clean Sweep, Warlike, and Henriette, the latter paying well over the "wool kings' " limit. Sir Geo. Clifford's team for the Easter meetings are doing strong work on the Riecarton tracks under the guidance of Albert Cutts. Macduff, Moorfowl. Onslaught, and Winter Wind are all forward, and some of the valuable Easter stakes should be won by inmates of Chokehore Lodge. The appeal of the Young Bros, will be heard at Wellington to-day, before the Racing Conference judges. _ In order to assist the Southland club to hold its Autumn meeting this month, Mr W. A Saunders (whose resignation as secretary has been accepted bv the committee)) has agreed to act as honorary secretary for the fixture, which is to take place on March 21th and 25th. . . The acceptances received tor the Waim'ate meeting, which is set down for next Thursday, must on the whole be considered very satisfactory The card opens with the Studholme Stakes, run over five furlongs. Mortham with 9.4 heads the list, nexlt comes that much discussed mare, Sembnc, with 9.0, Killala 5.13, Link Up 8.6, Pyjama 8.5, Thestius 8.2, Sleepy Head, through her two wins at' Akaroa has earned a 16lb penalty and goes from 7.10 to 8.12. Orthoform and Palladium have the minimum—6.7. On past form' the winner will probably come from Kiilala, . Sembric and Link Up. In the Trial Plate there are several which must be taken on trial. Master Dennis will probably be made favorite, with Cliarleroi and Dal Segno next, and one of the trio may salute the man in the box first, This paves the way lor the principal event, the \Vannate Cup, which for the first time will be run over seven furlongs. Radial with 9 1 still stands his ground, then comes S'unnrt 8.10. Kilbrogan by his wins at Gore mav not line up with 9./ on Ins back which includes his penalties. |>on Spec, 7.13, has a nice racing w.-icht ' but so far this season the Boniform gelding has not run up to expectations. Belgian King < .10 was I not saddled up at Gore, but if he I sports silk on the day, the Cronstadt -elding will keep the others busy. St. Winnow 7.7, Killala 7.3, Mandrake 7 •"> and Palamon and Miss Camouflage each 6.7 are the remainder, and to sum ui) the situation the chances ol Radial. Belgian King and Miss Camoui\we read as well as any. In the President's Handicap, run over six furlon.'s, Kilbrogan. with his penalties ot fsll.tr has 9.13 opposite his name, and his owner may prefer to start the Kilbror.ev gelding in this event . Bon Spec 9.5. Mortham 8.13, Sembric 8.9, Link Up and Pyjama hare each 8.Q.. Thestius 7.9. Sleepy Head will have to carrv 8.5, while Rothina and Babylon have each 6.7. . Without knowing the intention of owners, Kilbrogan, Link [p and Pvjama read as likely ones to follow. The Waitangi Hack is now to be run over ten furlongs, and ot the half dozen which have paid up one cannot "et past Footlights and Ihe Boss, aithonah it dressed in her best manners (in the dav Lady Superior should heat them all. In the Welter several •re en".v--ed who claim earlier engagements. 1 " Belgian, King has the steadier of 9.11, Hunarigong 9.10, Braid 9.4, Tvne and All Ready 5.9, Palamon 8./, Miss Camouflage 8.7,, while Micky Free Lr.dv Superior and Footlights 7.7 each to carry. Braid, Tyne and Ail Readv (who won last year);.appeal to the 'wi-iier. In the two trotting events punters' will be wise to watch The machine as usually money speaks. In the Morven Trot, in harness, Orari, Isla Wilkes and Canadian Club may • ■We a good "account of themselves, while in the Hook Trot, in saddle, Havrincourt, Scenery, and Glenar.iy are on good marks. Jack Svmons who won the steeples at Gore on the first dav. has been leased by F. Shaw, of Wingatui.. from R. Mahonev. Washdvke. Mr R. Actor Adams has leased Lisp to Mr S. G. Marett. of Wingatui. The Boss got all the worst of the run home in the Otaraia Handicap at Goro, with the result that the local gelding was only defeated by half a length as the line was crossed. Cashmere with Heetor Gray up was made an odds on favorite for the Maiden at Napier on Saturday. The good thing, who got left just got home after a desperate race up the straight. One very hot thing in one of the lmht harness events on Saturday at Akaroa but not a word was said. Strong support came for Salvaloss last week at the Thames meeting on the opening day. but the backers got no return." F. D. '.Jones has Bore in work aeain at Riearton. with a view of visiting some of the Southern meetings for the cross country events. Esperance who captured the Nelson Cup is a four-year-old full sister to Ardenvhor. who won the New Zealand Cup three years ago. Luke Wilson has taken in hand three yearlings who claim Mountain Knight as their sire. Two of them, colts, are from Fairy Gold, and Hoperte. and the third a filly is from Rarama. Mr "J. Baron." owner of Richmond Main, and other good horses in Sydney, is ;>t present visiting Mr W. G. Stead, r.t Hastings. Congratulations to Mir . Raloh Skipwith. the well known North Tsland starter who recently joined the army of benedicts. Dribble was well supported for the princin'al event at Greenmcadows on the second day. but she let her many supporters down badly. Punters at Napier on the second day must have been on good terms with themselves as out of the eight events on the card, first favorite won seven, while the eighth was captured by Hepta. second choice. Rose Wreath reads well with 8.3 in the Dannevirke Cup. Punters should not forget the way in which the Kilbroney filly won the Jockey Club' Handicap at Wingatui, over the same distance, in which she led all the. way and won on the bit by four lengths in the good time of 2min 7 1-osec.
